UK-South India Business Meet 2013 at the UK Parliament, London

On June 27, 2013 , UK-South India Business Meet 2013 was held to herald innovative avenues to foster stronger UK-South India bilateral trade relations

The Meet

On June 27the, 2013 all roads lead to the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London. This was the venue for the UK-South India Business Meet 2013 at the Committee rooms of Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London. The event was meant to herald innovative avenues to foster stronger UK-South India bilateral trade relations. The attendees included government representatives from South Indian states, Members of the House of Commons, representatives from UK companies and Indian companies who are interested in South India and businessmen from South India who are successful in UK. The event was chaired by British MP Mr. Virendra Sharma.

Programme summary

Mr. Virendra Sharma MP welcomed the delegates attending the Business Meet.

The event started with an overview of India-UK relations by Mr. Gareth Roberts of Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Mr. Sadananda Nayak, Executive Director of Punjab National Bank ( International) Limited spoke about Banking with a Difference, especially for companies based in the UK. Mr. Steve O’Leary, Director of Infrastructure and Life Sciences at UK Trade and Investment outlined the opportunities in India.

Mr. Lakshminarayana, Chief Consultant for Andhra Pradesh Project Facilitators and Consultancy Services Limited and a member of the Hospitality Development and Promotions Board spoke about business opportunities in Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Rajendra Kumar of UK-Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce presented the business opportunities in Tamil Nadu. Prof C.M.K Reddy of Apollo Hospitals & Halsted Surgical Clinic presented the healthcare opportunities in Tamil Nadu. Ms. Deepa Sugathan of Silkroute Legal gave an extensive talk about legal aspects of business with India.


The afternoon session started with Mr. Siddarth Raja of Samvad Partners in Bangalore speaking about the legal aspects of doing business in India. Mr. Alexi Levene, a British national who lives in Kerala and is MD of Innovation Experience Kerala, spoke about business opportunities in Kerala. Mr. Aurangzaib Chawala of Lanop Accountants gave an overview about the accounting practice in the UK. Mr. K.C Janardhan, Hon. Secretary of British Business Group - Bangalore illustrated opportunities in Karnataka. Dr. Anand RaviKumar of UK-Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce talked about opportunities in Pondicherry.
