India Romania Trade Conference in Kochi, India

The conference, which took place in Kochi, Kerala, India, was a collaborative endeavour between EICBI and IETO. Its primary objective was to serve as a catalyst for advancing trade promotion and nurturing stronger relations between Romania and India.

The conference began with all attendees paying homage to the national anthems of both India and Romania. Following this, in keeping with the cherished traditions of Kerala, H.E. Ms. Daniela Mariana Sezonov Tane, Ambassador of Romania to India, received a warm welcome to the event.

With this auspicious beginning, the conference officially commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, marking the initiation of the proceedings. Among the distinguished delegates who had the honor of lighting the lamp were H.E. Ms. Daniela Mariana Sezonov Tane, Ambassador of Romania to India, Dr. Vijay Mehta, Honorary Consul of Romania, Mr. Ionut Viziru, Minister Counsellor and Head of the Economic and Commercial Office at the Embassy of Romania, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the Indian Economic Trade Organization, Mr. Sujit S Nair, Chairman of the Europe India Centre for Business & Industry, Mr. Varghese Moolan, a renowned filmmaker from Kerala known for the award-winning film "ROCKETRY," and entrepreneur Mr. C.P. Salih.

The India Romania Conference com`menced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the Indian Economic Trade Organization. The gathering then delved into a broader perspective on India-EU relations with a presentation by Sujit S Nair, Chairman of the Europe India Centre for Business and Industry, specifically highlighting Romania's role in this context.

Dr. Vijay Mehta, Honorary Consul of Romania, shared valuable insights into India's achievements during its G20 presidency. This discussion shed light on India's impactful contributions on the global stage.

Turning to trade relations, Mr. Ionut Viziru, Head of the Economic and Commercial Office at the Embassy of Romania, elucidated the trade opportunities available for Indian businesses in Romania. This segment of the conference aimed to foster economic ties between the two nations.

H.E. Ms. Daniela Mariana Sezonov Tane, Ambassador of Romania to India, delivered a keynote speech on the subject of India-Romania relations and the path ahead. Her insights offered valuable direction for enhancing the bilateral connection. Ambassador Tane highlighted various domains for potential collaboration between India and Romania and extended a warm invitation to Indian companies to explore opportunities in Romania.

The conference then took an artistic turn with a speech on the Indian movie "ROCKETRY" by Varghese Moolan. Interestingly, portions of the film were shot in Romania, emphasizing the cultural ties between the two nations. Following the movie discussion, H.E. Ms. Daniela Mariana Sezonov Tane, Ambassador of Romania to India, and Dr. Varghese Moolan jointly launched the report titled "Film Incentives in Romania," showcasing opportunities for collaboration in the film industry.

Finally, Shri. A C K Nair, Electricity Ombudsman, Kerala, and Former Cochin Airport Official Director, extended a gracious vote of thanks. This conference was enriched by the active participation of approximately 60 to 70 business leaders from small and medium-scale industries who were keen to explore the numerous opportunities presented by Romania.


Romania, as a member of the European Union, plays a crucial role in the broader context of EU-India relations. This engagement reflects the ongoing efforts of the Europe India Centre for Business and Industry (EICBI) to promote and strengthen India-Romania relations within the framework of EU-India relations.
